Roberto Esquenazi Alkabes
Hey! I’m Roberto, a freelance lighting and video designer with a background in theatrical lighting design. Born and raised in Panama City, Panama, I moved to the United Kingdom to pursue higher education, graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 2021 with a degree in Lighting and Video Design. My career has taken me across diverse projects, from theatre to live music events, musicals, dance, and opera. I have a strong passion for immersive and emotionally resonant spaces that offer curated experiences from distinct perspectives.

Currently, I am completing my MFA in Lighting Design at Parsons School of Design in NYC, where I continue exploring the intersection of light, space, and human perception. While I wouldn’t call myself a lighting designer, I consider myself a darkness designer—deeply fascinated by the interplay between light and shadow. With extensive experience in the theatre sector, I bring a holistic approach to design, balancing creative vision with technical execution, excelling under pressure, and thriving in collaborative, client-facing roles.
